For plug-in hybrid applications, BorgWarner will supply an updated high-voltage inverter design featuring its proprietary Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology
BorgWarner has achieved a major extension of multiple high-volume high-voltage inverter programs with a leading European original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The renewed awards cover updated inverter designs for both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and 800V battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), with start of production planned for 2029.
The company said the extension strengthens its long-standing partnership with the customer in the field of power electronics and supports the next generation of electrified vehicle platforms.

For plug-in hybrid applications, BorgWarner will supply an updated high-voltage inverter design featuring its proprietary Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology, which has already been proven in the company’s 800V inverter portfolio. The new design is fully compatible with the customer’s next-generation vehicle operating system and is intended to deliver advanced power electronics control while supporting efficient system integration.
For 800V battery-electric applications, the company will provide a traction inverter incorporating a new generation of its proprietary Viper silicon carbide (SiC) power switches and a dual-sided-cooled power module. BorgWarner said the combination is designed to offer high efficiency along with improved cost competitiveness.
The company noted that both inverter families are engineered to enhance the customer’s competitiveness across its plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicle portfolio, supporting reduced-emission and zero-emission driving with high system efficiency.
