During the Munich Mobility Show, Mathias Pillin, the Global CTO of Bosch Mobility, discussed the company’s ambitions to expand its presence in India, citing the nation’s more advanced digital landscape compared to Europe.
Bosch Mobility, under Global CTO Mathias Pillin, is leveraging its innovative edge in automotive software and powertrain solutions to future-proof its technology. Pillin highlighted the company’s focus on affordable, optimal technology for the next 5-7 years, emphasizing its readiness to meet India’s specific price points after discussions with OEMs.
Addressing diesel’s reputation, Pillin acknowledged its decline, more due to perception than technical reasons, despite Bosch’s efforts in improving diesel technology. With impending Euro 7 regulations, Bosch is prepared to meet new standards for NOx and particulate matter emissions without significant new investments.
Pillin, a proponent of diesel efficiency, also mentioned Bosch’s commitment to the Paris climate goals, investing in electric motors, power electronics, battery technology, and hydrogen solutions.
For the cost-sensitive Indian market, Bosch is exploring affordable electric mobility solutions, including localizing e-motor and power electronics components. While there’s no definitive plan yet, Bosch sees potential in India for electric and alternate fuel vehicles, contingent on infrastructure development.
Pillin also praised India’s digital capabilities and talent, indicating a shift of more responsibilities to Bosch’s Indian R&D centres, especially in software development for vehicles. He remains confident in Bosch’s strategy in India, underscored by its low attrition rates and commitment to adapting to local market needs. Bosch’s future powertrain strategies align with global and Indian market trends, with a focus on new technologies and infrastructure development for alternate fuels like hydrogen.
