British Gas Unveils The New Hive EV Charger

British Gas only provides £100 in credit to Hive customers who move to the EV rate and £50 in Hive vouchers with every order for chargers.

As the newest addition to its line of smart home charging solutions, British Gas has announced the release of the Hive EV charger. For owners of electric vehicles who wish to better control and manage their charging and costs, the new charger is perfect. The charger, which is the smallest electric car charger currently available and is the size of an A5 notebook, was created in collaboration with EO Charging, one of the top EV charger manufacturers in the UK.

According to a British Gas study, 39% of respondents are likely to install a home charger to fuel an EV, and more people are starting to think about their home charging choices. With the new British Gas price, customers will be able to charge their electric vehicles for less money. Off-peak electricity is provided between 12am and 5am for less than 10p per kWh. The charger is one of many items available to help clients reach net zero.

The charger costs £1,199 including VAT to buy with installation provided by British Gas, or $119 per month with the recently introduced interest-free credit option. The charger costs just £739 including VAT when purchased separately. When British Gas arranges for installation, it offers consumers a 3-year warranty. For standalone charger purchases, customers receive a 2-year product warranty. By switching to the British Gas EV plan, you can receive a £100 credit back on your first energy statement from British Gas and Hive. Upon completion of a charger installation, both new and existing Hive EV charging clients will additionally receive £50 Hive coupons to use on any Hive technology.

Tom Pollard, Director of Hardware Distribution Sales for EO Charging said: “As demand for EVs continues to grow, customers are looking for a smart, high-quality charging product that helps integrate their new vehicle into their lifestyle in a simple and cost-effective way. Our latest OCPP-compliant home charger distils more than five years’ worth of learnings from our work with over 60,000 domestic customers, offering best in class technology and reliability. We’re delighted to see this recognised by an institution like British Gas, and to become charger-of-choice for its customers.”
