C-DOT Opens 6G Innovation Lab as DoT Secretary Pushes Global Expansion of Indian Telecom Tech

The initiative is aligned with the Bharat 6G Vision and the six technology pillars of the ITU IMT-2030 framework.

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has inaugurated a 6G Innovation Lab at its Bengaluru campus, with Amit Agrawal, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), calling for greater focus on taking India’s indigenous telecom technologies to global markets.

During his visit to C-DOT, Agrawal reviewed the organisation’s ongoing research programmes and technology initiatives across mobile wireless technologies, cybersecurity, disaster management, quantum communications, next-generation networks, and emerging communication technologies.

The newly inaugurated 6G Innovation Lab will focus on advancing indigenous sixth-generation communication technologies, developing proof-of-concept solutions, and supporting the evolution of existing wireless technologies towards future 6G capabilities. The initiative is aligned with the Bharat 6G Vision and the six technology pillars of the ITU IMT-2030 framework.

C-DOT demonstrated several indigenous technologies during the visit, including NIGRAH, an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC)-based solution for railway hazard monitoring; HyperCAST, an AI-enabled hyperspectral semantic communication solution; PRAVAH, an intelligent reflectarray technology aimed at improving ubiquitous connectivity; and NISHA, an indigenous architecture for resilient satellite connectivity.

The demonstrations highlighted C-DOT’s work in AI-enabled communications, intelligent wireless infrastructure, integrated sensing and communication, and next-generation satellite connectivity.

A key focus of Agrawal’s visit was C-DOT’s transition from technology development to large-scale technology adoption and commercialisation. The organisation is looking to identify international markets, understand country-specific technology requirements, develop market-entry strategies, and build partnerships with governments, telecom operators, technology companies, and system integrators.

“C-DOT has built significant indigenous capabilities across a wide spectrum of telecommunications technologies. The next phase is to take these innovations to the world through a focused approach to technology commercialisation, market development and international partnerships,” said Agrawal.

He added that C-DOT needs to identify global market requirements and deployment opportunities while creating pathways for Indian technologies to achieve wider adoption and market share.

Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO, C-DOT, said the organisation is working on a structured market penetration strategy to align its technologies with country-specific requirements and establish partnerships across governments, operators, enterprises, and technology ecosystems.

The visit comes as C-DOT looks to strengthen the global footprint of Indian telecom technologies and move more of its indigenous innovations from research and development towards deployment, commercialisation, and international adoption.
