Canon U.S.A., Inc. has launched imageFORMULA CR-L1 compact check transport, which is designed to streamline banking processes.

The CR-L1 check transport is intended to meet the needs of high-volume batch Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) and remote lockbox check processing, the company said.

Small and medium sized businesses, remote offices, merchants, and other  remote users can use to scan checks, money orders, and related payment documents. Thus it can help them in reducing processing time and courier costs.

Compact in size, the CR-L1 check scanner is designed to fit areas with limited workspace, the company announced in a release.

Its simple design allows the check scanner to be easily opened, for routine cleaning and maintenance of the scanning glass and rollers as well as clearing paper jams.

The is also flexible enough to reliably handle multiple document types, including paper checks, money orders, coupons, payment vouchers, pay stubs, and more. It is currently available for MSRP $495.

Key features of imageFORMULA CR-L1 compact check transport

It can scan up to 45 Checks-Per-Minute (CPM) and simultaneously capture the front and back side of items, in color, black and white, or grayscale.

The up-to-50-item Auto Feeder and up-to-50-item Eject Pocket allow for batch scanning, while a built-in electronic sensor detects misfeeds.

Its image processing features, such as Fine Text Filtering, allow for sharper image capture, resulting in better Optical Character Recognition (OCR) accuracy.

Magnetic Optical Character Recognition (MOCR) is also used in the CR-L1 check transport, combining Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) with OCR processing to capture accurate MICR data. These features increase read rates and information capture with clarity and precision.

“We’re always listening to our customers and their need for a convenient solution for batch scanning for remote data capture came through loud and clear,” said Shinichi Yoshida, executive vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A.

“We’re excited to introduce the imageFORMULA CR-L1check transport, which is our response to that feedback,” Yoshida added.

The CR-L1 check transport shares a common integration platform included with all Canon check scanners: the CR Software Development Kit (SDK) and Silver Bullet Technology’s Ranger API.
