Apart from defence Coratia’s technologies can be applied at dams, reservoir ports, bridges, pipelines, offshore assets and subsea communication networks
Homegrown deep-tech startup Coratia Technologies raised ₹18 crore ($1.9 million) in a bridge round led by MGF Kavachh. The investment will help the firm execute its approximately $7 million project for the Indian Navy, under iDEX initiative as well as add to its R&D capabilities on underwater robotics.
The follow-on investment by MGF Kavachh, an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) founded by former defence secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar in 2024, reflects the confidence in Coratia’s technology and growth performance according to the company.
Croatia technologies, founded by Debendra Pradhan and Biswajit Swain develops indigenous underwater robotics systems, had previously raised $1.8 million in series A funding from MGF Kavachh, Piper and SIBDI. Its flagship product Jalasimha UWROV has achieved technical readiness level of 9 (TRL-9).
Debendra Pradhan, the co-founder of Coratia said that Indian waters present unique challenges such as high turbidity, silt, low visibility, and changing currents. He added that the company focuses on miniaturising its technologies while enhancing the system’s intelligence capabilities for defence and other industrial applications.
Biswajit Swain, co-founder and CTO said that the Indian Navy project is a critical milestone but their work extends beyond it. He mentioned increasing investment in autonomy, sensing, navigation, underwater perception, and intervention capabilities.
Apart from defence Coratia’s technologies can be applied at dams, reservoir ports, bridges, pipelines, offshore assets and subsea communication networks. It specialises in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous marine systems, designed to inspect and survey submerged infrastructure.
Raj Sethia, founder and managing partner of MGF Kavachh said that Coratia is developing indigenous underwater robotics capability for defence and other critical infrastructure. The follow-on investment will help Coratia advance its R&D roadmap and scale the deployment of its products.
The company’s clients and partners include the Indian Navy, Indian Oil, Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, SAIL, Indian Railways, IIT Rourkela, Jindal Steel among others.
