Rising fuel costs, sustainability targets and improving EV economics are driving greater adoption of electric trucks across logistics and industrial sectors.
Large Indian companies are stepping up investments in electric trucks as rising diesel prices, logistics costs and sustainability commitments reshape freight operations across sectors.
According to Economic Times, companies such as UltraTech Cement, Vedanta and JSW are expanding their electric mobility initiatives, while vehicle manufacturers are seeing a quick rise in enquiries from corporate customers looking to reduce fuel dependence and improve operating efficiency.
The growing interest is beginning to reflect in industry sales. Electric truck registrations nearly quadrupled during the first five months of 2026, indicating broader acceptance across logistics, ports, mining, cement and e-commerce operations.
UltraTech Cement has already deployed electric trucks for bulk logistics and plans to gradually replace conventional diesel-powered vehicles across its network. Vedanta is also advancing fleet electrification and said around 14% of its light motor vehicle fleet has transitioned to electric mobility, with more than 200 EVs deployed.
The trend is extending beyond fleet adoption. Through JSW Greentech, the JSW Group is entering the electric commercial vehicle segment, signalling growing confidence in the long-term potential of electric freight mobility.
Truck makers say demand from corporates has increased significantly over the past year. Ashok Leyland and Blue Energy Motors reported a rise in enquiries from large fleet operators, logistics firms, FMCG distributors and industrial customers. “Businesses today are increasingly focused on building resilience against fuel price volatility and supply-chain uncertainties,” said Anirudh Bhuwalka, founder and managing director of Blue Energy Motors.
Industry stakeholders believe upgrading battery technology, faster charging infrastructure, innovative ownership models and policy support will play a key role in increasing electric truck adoption across India’s freight ecosystem.
