Globally leading electronic components distributor, Digi-Key Electronics recently celebrated the company’s milestone of 50th year in business. Interestingly, Brian Holmer, the Mayor of the city of Thief River Falls (company headquarters), proclaimed April 3, 2023, as the ‘Digi-Key Day in the city of Thief River Falls.’ The company noted that its team members will be recognized and it will commemorate the milestone during a week-long celebration, and also during company events throughout the year.
On the occasion, the company remembered its history when it started way back in the early 1970s. It noted: Dr Ronald Stordahl discovered an untapped group of entrepreneurs and inventors, like himself, who shared a need for small quantities of a wide range of electronic components that would ultimately fuel a technology revolution for electronic hobbyists, and then for the commercial market.
Digi-Key also appreciated the efforts of its employees, suppliers and global partners worldwide who are catering to over 929,000 customers. It added that the company now provides digital solutions and tools also, to engineers, designers and makers in over 180 countries.
The president of Digi-Key, Dave Doherty remarked on the occasion, “As we celebrate this milestone year, we want to thank our team members, customers, partners, suppliers and our Thief River Falls community. Our mutual success over these 50 years has been driven by your passion, dedication and loyalty. Together, we’ve grown and excelled, and we know that an even brighter future awaits us all.”
Notably, Digi-Key opened its 2.2 mn sqft Product Distribution Center expansion (PDCe) in 2022. Calling it one of the largest warehouses in North America, the company aims to scale capacity to keep up with the growing demand. Last year, Digi-Key added over 550 new suppliers and 75,000 SKUs.
Meanwhile, Mayor Brian Holmer commented, “We are thrilled to celebrate Digi-Key’s 50th anniversary in the company’s hometown of Thief River Falls, and we’re proud to see the company grow from humble beginnings into the global leader it is today while staying committed to its roots and our community.
