The partnership combines Lantronix’s AI processor, Gremsy’s stabilised gimbal and Teledyne FLIR’s thermal-visible camera, targeting regulated defence and expanding commercial markets.
Lantronix has entered the commercial and defence drone market with the launch of an integrated edge AI payload that combines compute, stabilisation and imaging technologies. The platform is developed in collaboration with Gremsy and Teledyne FLIR.
The market for drones is projected to grow to $57.8 billion by 2030, with rising demand from government, agriculture, energy and infrastructure sectors driving the need for integrated payloads that meet both operational and regulatory requirements.
The drone is packed with Gremsy’s Lynx ISR gimbal and Teledyne FLIR’s Hadron 640R dual thermal-visible camera with Lantronix’s Open-Q 5165RB compute system, powered by the Qualcomm QRB5165 processor. This combination delivers stabilisation, imaging and real-time AI processing in one package, aimed at reducing the development burden for drone manufacturers.
Mike Walters, vice president of product management at Teledyne FLIR OEM, points to the significance of combining hardware and AI at the edge. “The integration of imaging and edge AI accelerates the development of drone applications across industries,” he says.
Gremsy also highlights the strategic impact of the collaboration. “Working together on a ready-to-deploy payload makes advanced drone technology more accessible for both government and industrial projects,” says Nguyen Van Chu, vice general director at Gremsy.
The drone system is compliant with the US National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the Trade Agreements Act (TAA). These certifications are required for US defence procurement and provide eligibility for projects in security-sensitive areas.
Lantronix confirms production shipments are in progress. The company identifies early deployments in inspection, surveillance and monitoring, where secure on-board processing and extended flight times are critical to operations.
