E-Luna Bookings Open By Kinetic Green Before February Launch

The legendary Luna returns in an electric version, aiming not only at urban areas in India but also targeting Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns and rural regions as an eco-friendly means of transportation.

Kinetic Green has initiated reservations for the E-Luna, an environmentally friendly, modern rendition of Kinetic Engineering’s famed Luna moped, with bookings starting at Rs 500 today. This precedes E-Luna’s formal debut, set for February 2023.

Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Kinetic Green’s founder and CEO, expressed excitement over Luna’s revival in an electric form. The E-Luna, scheduled for launch in early February 2024, with bookings opening on Republic Day, January 26, 2024, epitomizes the ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made for India’ ethos. It is crafted to be a robust and enduring electric vehicle (EV), suitable for both metro and Tier 1 cities and Tier 2, Tier 3, and rural areas. The E-Luna aims to offer an effective alternative to conventional petrol two-wheelers, catering to the evolving needs of contemporary consumers. Its technical excellence, performance, feature-rich design, and commitment to environmental sustainability stand out, making it a practical choice for the modern Indian market.

The E-Luna is expected to launch with three powertrain options. The first available model will feature a 2kWh battery with an 80km range. Plans also include a 1.5kWh battery variant for Tier 2 and 3 markets with a 40-45km range and a 3kWh battery version offering a 100-125km range.

Though the price remains undisclosed until the launch, Motwani hinted at an EMI of Rs 2,500 per month for the E-Luna, positioning it as an accessible and affordable option. It is designed with a 150kg payload capacity and a sturdy frame suitable for urban and semi-rural environments. Kinetic Green, based in Pune, aims to sell 5,000 E-Lunas monthly, leveraging recent reductions in component and battery costs.

The E-Luna, listed on several e-commerce sites, is priced between Rs 71,990-74,990 (ex-showroom). The new zero-emission model maintains a simplistic and functional design, reminiscent of its iconic predecessor, though it lacks the traditional pedals. It features a removable rear seat for extra storage, weighs only 96kg, and has a seat height of 760mm, making it user-friendly.

Equipped with a basic digital dashboard, USB charging, and a side-stand cut-off, the E-Luna offers practicality and simplicity. It comes in Mulberry Red and Ocean Blue. The vehicle is built on a tubular frame, supported by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers, and utilizes drum brakes. It rides on spoked 16-inch wheels with slim TVS Eurogrip tyres.

The E-Luna is anticipated to have a top speed of 50-52Kmph and be powered by a hub-mounted motor with 22Nm torque. The 2kWh battery charges in 4 hours, and a portable charger is included. There’s a provisional 110km range, pending confirmation.

TVS Motor Co, the sole manufacturer of petrol-engined mopeds in India, sold 466,724 units in CY2023, averaging 38,893 monthly sales. It remains to be seen if the Kinetic E-Luna will attract customers from this segment.
