East India special: Company profiles

GP tronics pvt ltd (GPT)

Saikat Roy Choudhury, executive director

GP Tronics Pvt Ltd (GPT) is a 34 year old company based in Kolkata and deals in power electronic products with a special focus on solar photovoltaic power electronics.

Pulse Power Technologies Pvt Ltd (PPT), a holding company of GPT, has a tie up with an Australian company which manufactures high end solar power conditioning equipment for the Indian sub continent and other countries.

GPT has its own R&D unit and it manufactures inverters with off-grid applications with capacities of 1 kVA–5 kVA. GPT also has an agreement with two major European companies—KACO New Energy GmbH and Nedap Energy Systems for marketing and servicing its solar inverters.

KACO New Energy GmbH is the second largest German manufacturer of grid connected solar inverters. Nedap Energy System, Netherlands, manufactures the PowerRouter hybrid solar inverters, which are reputed to have unmatched features and performance.

Service support

GPT has a pan India network for providing service support for their entire range of products. Its service engineers are factory trained in Germany, ensuring that the German philosophy of servicing is inculcated into the service chain of GPT.

Project execution

GPT executes selected projects for its clients and end customers for PV power plant installations under the following project execution stages:

Project planning, which is the most critical part of the entire process. The entire power plant is designed—including the electrical, mechanical, civil and other aspects. GPT helps in finalising major items like PV modules, inverters, structures, lightning protection, earthing, array junction boxes, AC panels and cables. These designs are then approved by the clients. Since PV power plants are designed for a timeline of 15-20 years, GPT invests a lot of time in choosing the correct materials. A portion of

the BOM is imported from the world’s best manufacturers like LAPP, Dehn, OBO, etc. This is to ensure that the life of the components match the life of the project.

Project execution: GPT undertakes proper planning so that the execution process is vastly simplified and the execution time of a 100 kWp power plant is reduced to just 15 days, followed by quality checks and rectification. The company also ensures that the power plant is set up and operational for a period of 7-10 days before handing over to the client with all documentation for future use.

Operation and maintenance: With proper planning and execution, GPT makes sure that the need for operation and maintenance is greatly reduced. In this stage, the O&M team takes over the installation and provides regular support to the customer, if so required. Remote monitoring is compulsorily installed for GPT installation above 5 kVA to have a clear understanding of the project’s functioning and the problems, if any.
