ESSCI and NIELIT Partner to Advance UK-Standard Semiconductor Skilling in India

Strategic alliance aims to build a high-tech talent pipeline across semiconductors, AI, and emerging technologies.

The Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) and the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand industry-aligned skilling across semiconductors and emerging technical domains.

The partnership will focus on designing and delivering certified training initiatives across key growth areas, including semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), drone technology, embedded systems, Industry 4.0, cybersecurity, and electric vehicle electronics.

As the apex sector council, ESSCI will establish industry-relevant standards and qualification packages. These will be aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework and the broader Skill India mission to address skill shortages among graduates and early-career jobseekers.

Under the framework, NIELIT will deploy its virtual laboratory infrastructure for initial training and upskilling programs. The alliance also plans to establish physical advanced laboratories, dedicated Centres of Excellence, and specialised training facilities.

Madhvendra Singh, Chief Executive of ESSCI, stated that India’s growth targets in electronics and semiconductors depend on a resilient pipeline of skilled professionals capable of adapting to rapid technological shifts. He noted that the collaboration with NIELIT would deepen industry-led training while offering students clearer pathways to relevant practical experience.

Furthermore, the initiative will leverage ESSCI’s corporate network to encourage private sector participation through apprenticeships, internships, industrial site visits, and job placements. Both institutions will also co-design competency frameworks, lead train-the-trainer and assessor initiatives, run faculty development schemes, and conduct joint workforce research to map future skill requirements.
