While we have long been hearing about flexible smartphones and TV screens that can be folded and can even fit in your pocket, the news of flexible batteries will revolutionise the scene further. The good news is that there are technological advances towards development of flexible batteries.
The world’s largest scientific society, American Chemical Society has featured the cover story on polymer, or plastic, batteries in the current edition of Chemical and Engineering News (C and EN).
The senior correspondent of the publication has focused on the latest research that involves organic polymers, which exhibit key properties that are needed for the next generation of batteries, reports ANI.
The flexible batteries will not only be powerful but lightweight. It will reportedly be made out of safe materials and may be used in bigger electronics like electric vehicles and other transportation apps.
The article further highlighted that lithium-ion technology likely will continue to be in the core of all developments; however, flammable, liquid electrolytes need a safety upgrade. To overcome these obstacles, scientists are looking for nonflammable, solid electrolytes to regian lithium batteries’ reputation, which was marred after the recent Boeing 787 Dreamliner safety incidents.
The article concluded by saying that researchers will be able to overcome these obstacles to making flex batteries a reality.
