Bengaluru-based Flying Wedge Defence & Aerospace has unveiled FWD Supreme, an AI-powered fighter jet concept designed for autonomous combat operations.
Flying Wedge Defence & Aerospace (FWDA), a Bengaluru-based defence technology company, has unveiled FWD Supreme, an AI-powered fighter jet concept aimed at autonomous combat operations, according to Economic Times.
The company said the programme is the first of its kind in India and places the country among a select group of nations developing AI-piloted fighter aircraft.
Unlike conventional unmanned aircraft operated remotely, FWD Supreme is designed to fly using artificial intelligence with minimal human intervention. The platform is built around FWDA’s “Mobbing Doctrine,” which focuses on deploying multiple AI-enabled fighter jets in coordinated swarm operations against high-value enemy targets.
“The future of air superiority will not be achieved by a single fighter aircraft,” the company said. “It will be defined by intelligent and adaptive combat systems working together at machine speed.”
The first technology demonstrator, FWD Supreme Lite, is a 250-kg class platform, with its first flight targeted for Q3 2026.
FWDA is also developing FWD Supreme Heavy, a 1-tonne class platform designed for extended-range autonomous missions including ISR, strike, and collaborative combat operations. Phase-1 targets include speeds up to Mach 0.9 and an operational range of 700–1,000 km.
