FUJIFILM India Eyes Semiconductor Materials Plant in Gujarat 

The company has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to explore setting up a semiconductor materials facility in Dholera, supporting India’s chip manufacturing ambitions. 

FUJIFILM India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, to explore the establishment of a semiconductor materials manufacturing facility in the state. The agreement was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara and marks the company’s latest step toward supporting India’s growing semiconductor industry.

Under the partnership, FUJIFILM India will evaluate the feasibility of setting up a production base for semiconductor materials in Dholera, one of India’s emerging semiconductor manufacturing hubs. The company also plans to collaborate with government agencies, industry organizations and private-sector partners to strengthen the country’s semiconductor supply chain and reduce dependence on imports of critical materials.

The initiative aligns with India’s broader ambition of becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing destination. With demand for chips rising across industries such as consumer electronics, automotive, telecommunications and artificial intelligence, localized production of semiconductor materials is expected to improve supply chain resilience and support the country’s long-term technology goals.

FUJIFILM India said the proposed investment reflects its strategy of expanding its advanced materials business in India while contributing to the government’s “Make in India” initiative. The company will leverage its global expertise in semiconductor chemicals and materials to assess opportunities for supporting domestic chip manufacturing.

The company currently operates more than 20 semiconductor materials production facilities worldwide and considers India a key market for future growth. Through the planned collaboration, FUJIFILM aims to bring its global technology and manufacturing capabilities to the Indian semiconductor ecosystem while helping build a sustainable supply chain for chip production.

The MoU also highlights Gujarat’s growing importance in India’s semiconductor ambitions, with Dholera emerging as a major destination for semiconductor investments. If the project moves forward, it could further strengthen the state’s position as a key manufacturing hub and support India’s efforts to establish a competitive semiconductor value chain.
