Government Approves Second ECMS Batch Investments Worth ₹71.72B

Backed by ₹71.72 billion in fresh investments and 17 new manufacturing approvals, the ECMS push sharpens its drive to build a high-value, globally competitive electronics supply chain.

The government has approved the second batch of proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), paving the way for fresh investments of ₹71.72 billion. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) announced that these projects are expected to generate an estimated production value of ₹651.11 billion and create around 11,808 direct jobs. This follows the earlier approval of seven projects worth ₹55.32 billion.

The newly approved projects are distributed across nine states: Goa, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.

MeitY highlighted that these locations reflect a wider strategy to encourage balanced growth and promote skilled employment outside major urban centres.

Besides, the second tranche covers a wide range of electronic components and sub-assemblies. These include India’s first optical transceiver (SFP) manufacturing units by Jabil Circuit India and Zetchem Supply Chain Services. Rakon India will produce oscillators used in high-precision devices, and Aequs Consumer Products will manufacture enclosures for smartwatches and laptops.

Camera module production will be undertaken by ASUX Safety Components, Uno Minda, and Syrma Mobility. TE Connectivity will make electronic connectors, while nine companies have been approved to manufacture multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs).

At the announcement event, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that ECMS is helping India integrate more deeply into the global electronics value chain. He said the scheme would help the country reach its target of $500 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2030–31.

The minister also unveiled India’s first energy-efficient edge silicon chip, ARKA-GKT1. Developed by Cyient Semiconductors and Azimuth AI, the chip offers up to ten times better performance while reducing cost and complexity. It is designed for smart utilities, industrial IoT, and urban infrastructure applications.
