The new 300 MW Bikaner solar plant strengthens India’s domestic-content solar push and boosts NHPC’s clean energy capacity.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned NHPC Limited’s 450 MWp (DC) / 300 MW (AC) DCR-compliant solar power project at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Bikaner, Rajasthan, marking one of the year’s most significant renewable energy milestones. Completed over two and a half years, the project highlights TPREL’s growing expertise in managing large-scale, high-complexity clean-energy installations.
The plant, equipped with high-efficiency DCR solar modules manufactured by TP Solar in Tirunelveli, will supply its entire output to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). Over its operational life, the project is expected to generate nearly 17,230 million units of green electricity. TPREL implemented precision ramming, bifacial modules, and heat-resilient inverters to ensure optimal performance in Bikaner’s harsh climate, where extreme temperatures and mobility challenges often hinder execution.
Around 7,75,000 modules were installed, supported by a workforce of over 300 local employees and several regional vendors—providing a direct socio-economic boost to the area. The project’s commissioning reinforces TPREL’s role in advancing domestic manufacturing and powering India’s clean-energy ambitions.
Alongside this project, TPREL is supplying DCR modules for SJVN’s 1 GW and NLC’s 300 MW projects in Rajasthan, both nearing commissioning. With this milestone, Tata Power Renewables now has a total renewable utility capacity of 11.6 GW, including 5.8 GW operational and 5.8 GW under implementation, underscoring its accelerating contribution toward India’s 2030 and 2070 climate goals.
