The formation of ICEYE India follows the formation of its German subsidiary last month. The move aims to tap into, what the company describes as, one of the world’s most significant defence and space markets.
Finnish specialist in SAR (synthetic aperture radar) imagery, ICEYE is formally establishing its India entity ICEYE India, working in New Delhi. With increasing importance of sovereign space capabilities, national subsidiaries are important for bidding government contracts.
The formation of ICEYE India follows the establishment of its German subsidiary. The move aims to tap into, what the company describes as, one of the world’s most significant defence and space markets.
“Iceye India means real engineering and manufacturing capability on the ground,” said Rafał Modrzewski, the company’s CEO and co-founder. “We’re excited to build this together with the government and local partners and to support India as it strengthens its own sovereign intelligence capability.”
The satellite based company now has offices in the UK, Finland, Germany, Poland, Spain, Australia, Japan, Greece UAE, US and India.
The company owns the world’s largest constellation of SAR satellites, which offer resolution up to 16 cm and its high resolution field of regard extends to 400 km. Along with the satellites, the company offers ground infrastructure with AI enabled processing and analytics.
It’s called a ‘synthetic’ aperture as it acquires data from a shorter antenna to stimulate a much larger antenna. The main advantage of SAR is that it enables persistent situational awareness, throughout the day and night and regardless of the weather.
