C2i Semiconductors’ digital power technologies will help Infineon address rising power and efficiency demands from next-generation AI data centres.
Infineon Technologies has agreed to acquire Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, a semiconductor technology company developing software-defined multiphase controllers and smart power stages for AI data centres. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Infineon’s position in AI power management while expanding its digital power engineering capabilities in India. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2026.
C2i’s technology focuses on intelligent digital power management and system-level power architectures, including vertical power delivery and Substrate Integrated Voltage Regulators (SIVRs). Its solutions are designed to manage the increasingly dynamic power requirements of AI processors, which can experience rapid changes in workload and power consumption.
The company’s approach is centred on a grid-to-core power architecture, covering multiple stages between the incoming electrical supply and the processor. In an earlier interaction with Electronics For You, C2i executives said the company was developing solutions spanning the power delivery chain, from high-voltage input to tightly regulated power for advanced processors.
C2i had also said that its first-generation chips were scheduled for tape-out in the third quarter of 2026. The initial products focus on the final stage of processor power delivery, with controllers and power solutions designed for GPUs and high-performance processors. According to the company, these solutions target conversion from intermediate bus voltages of around 4–16V to precise processor core voltages while handling currents of up to 4kA.
The startup has positioned software-defined voltage regulation as a key differentiator. Its architecture combines power conversion hardware with digital control and algorithms to dynamically optimise power delivery. C2i said its approach could improve system-level efficiency and processor performance by reducing conversion losses, optimising switching and responding more quickly to changing GPU workloads.
The company had described power for AI as a trillion-dollar opportunity, highlighting the growing importance of power delivery as AI servers become more power-intensive. C2i’s founders said the company was established to address these challenges from India and build technology for global AI infrastructure markets.
Infineon said the acquisition will combine C2i’s digital power expertise with its own portfolio of power semiconductors and power systems, including silicon, silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) technologies. The companies will also work on next-generation vertical power delivery architectures, including SIVR solutions.
“C2i Semiconductors brings exceptional expertise in software-defined power management and system-level power architectures,” said Adam White, President of Infineon’s Power Systems division. He added that the acquisition would accelerate innovation in AI data centre power delivery and expand Infineon’s capabilities in next-generation vertical power architectures.
For C2i, the acquisition provides access to Infineon’s semiconductor technologies, manufacturing capabilities and global customer base. Founder and CEO Ram Anant said the combination would allow the company to accelerate development of software-defined power architectures and take its technology to customers globally.
The deal also gives Infineon a larger innovation footprint in India. The company currently employs approximately 2,800 people in the country and plans to use the acquisition to further strengthen its global R&D network. Infineon said the transaction will help establish a centre of excellence for digital power technologies in India.
The acquisition comes as power delivery becomes a critical bottleneck for AI infrastructure. As GPUs and other AI accelerators become more powerful, data centres need power systems capable of responding to rapidly changing loads while maintaining efficiency, thermal performance and reliability. C2i’s software-defined approach is aimed at addressing this challenge at the system level, while Infineon brings scale and a broader power semiconductor portfolio to accelerate its commercialisation.
