SJVN Ltd, a state-owned power producer, has achieved approval to set up four joint venture entities for expanding hydro and renewable projects. With a combined capacity of 8,778 MW, these projects will be implemented in India and Nepal.
This initiative has received approval from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
To kickstart these endeavours, SJVN will collaborate with the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd to develop Renewable Energy Projects with a cumulative capacity of 5,000 MW. Another pivotal JV will be forged between SJVN, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and Navyuga Engineering Company Ltd, with the primary objective being the development of the 1,878 MW Oju Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
SJVN will join forces with the Nepal Electricity Authority and GMR Energy Limited in a third strategic partnership to spearhead the 900 MW Upper Karnali Hydro Electric Project in Nepal. This venture will see equal equity participation between SJVN and GMR. Additionally, SJVN’s wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), will establish a JV with Assam Power Development Company Ltd. Their shared mission revolves around the development of 1,000 MW Renewable Energy Projects in the state of Assam.
This development signifies a significant expansion in SJVN’s portfolio, which now encompasses Hydro, Thermal, Solar, and Wind Energy and involvement in Power Transmission and Trading. The company has solidified its standing as a prominent player in the Indian power sector, boasting a project portfolio exceeding 56,000 MW and a widespread presence spanning India and Nepal.
