The state Cabinet approved a full registration tax exemption for most electric vehicles, a 20 per cent quota for ex-Agniveers, and tax rebates for women vehicle owners.
The Haryana Cabinet has approved a set of policy measures aimed at promoting electric mobility, encouraging women’s vehicle ownership, and expanding employment opportunities for ex-Agniveers. The decisions were taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
To accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), the Cabinet approved a 100 per cent exemption from motor vehicle registration tax for new battery-operated two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers with an ex-showroom price of up to ₹3 million, provided they are purchased and registered in Haryana.
For electric vehicles priced above ₹3 million, buyers will receive a 50 per cent exemption on the applicable registration tax. The state government said the move is part of its efforts to promote cleaner transportation and support the transition to sustainable mobility.
In a bid to encourage women’s economic empowerment, the Cabinet also approved a 1 per cent rebate on motor vehicle tax for non-commercial vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to ₹2 million if they are purchased and registered in the name of a woman. The initiative is intended to boost asset ownership among women while promoting greater participation in vehicle ownership.
The Cabinet also approved a 20 per cent horizontal reservation for Haryana-resident ex-Agniveers in recruitment for the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire Services, and Wildlife Guard posts. The decision extends reservation benefits to former Agniveers after completing their service under the Agnipath recruitment scheme.
The announcements were made by the chief minister’s office (CMO) and the Department of Information, Public Relations, Languages and Culture (DIPR Haryana) following the Cabinet meeting.
While the policy decisions have received Cabinet approval, the state government has not yet announced an implementation timeline. The measures are expected to strengthen Haryana’s electric mobility ecosystem, promote inclusive growth, and create new career opportunities for former defence personnel while supporting the state’s broader sustainability goals.
