HP is set to expand its ‘Renew’ program in India, focusing on promoting sustainability through the sale of refurbished HP computer equipment. India is seen as a key market for this initiative due to its large market size and HP’s strong brand presence in the country. The program is particularly targeting governments and large private enterprises.
HP’s first PC restoration program was announced at the recent Imagine event at their Palo Alto headquarters. This program is part of a suite of services under the umbrella of Renew Solutions.
India is expected to play a significant role in all three segments of the Renew Solutions business: transactional, contractual, and HP certified. Currently, India is involved in two segments: the transactional segment, which includes the purchase of refurbished devices or getting devices refurbished by HP, and the contractual segment, which offers flexible payment solutions for customers.
The Renew program, initially launching in France this year, is set to expand to other regions in 2024. In India, HP currently offers a leasing model with options for six or 12 months, and plans to broaden its services to include other aspects of the Renew model in the near future.
Grant Hoffman, Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Poly, emphasized the role of India in the Renew Solutions business, highlighting the country’s involvement in the transactional and contractual segments, and potentially in the HP certified segment as well.
Refurbished electronics are pre-owned devices that have been inspected, repaired, and tested to meet the manufacturer’s standards. These items are sold at lower prices compared to new products, offering affordability to consumers while maintaining reliable performance and some level of warranty.
