The two countries plan to expand cooperation in semiconductors as part of broader efforts to strengthen technology and manufacturing partnerships.
India and Indonesia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the semiconductor sector following discussions between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono during the latter’s visit to New Delhi.
The discussions covered several sectors, including trade, investment, defence, maritime affairs, healthcare, education and the digital economy. However, semiconductors emerged as a key focus area as both countries seek to deepen collaboration in technology and manufacturing.
The areas discussed include technology exchange, talent development, semiconductor supply-chain partnerships, research collaboration, electronics manufacturing integration and investment facilitation.
The development comes as India continues efforts to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem through initiatives such as the India Semiconductor Mission and investments in chip manufacturing, packaging and design. Indonesia, meanwhile, is looking to improve its role in regional manufacturing networks and technology supply chains.
Semiconductors are used in a wide range of products, including smartphones, computers, automobiles, industrial equipment and medical devices. As a result, cooperation in this sector has become increasingly important for countries looking to strengthen manufacturing capabilities and support technology development.
Moreover, the latest discussions add to the broader India–Indonesia partnership, which already spans trade, security, education and economic cooperation. The move is expected to encourage greater engagement between stakeholders across the semiconductor and electronics sectors.
