India has approved 12 semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission, strengthening domestic chip manufacturing and electronics production.
India has approved 12 semiconductor manufacturing projects with a total investment pipeline of around ₹1.64 trillion under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), according to Telangana Today.
The approved projects include one semiconductor fabrication unit, two compound semiconductor fabrication units and nine packaging units, marking a major step to strengthen India’s chip manufacturing ecosystem.
The government has also announced India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 in the Union Budget 2026–27, with major focus on semiconductor equipment, materials, indigenous intellectual property and supply chain resilience.
On the design front, 24 projects are being supported under the Design Linked Incentive scheme, while 105 companies have received access to advanced chip design tools. So far, 23 design tape-outs have been completed at multiple foundries, including advanced nodes.
India’s AI push is also supporting the semiconductor ecosystem. Backed by the ₹103.72 billion IndiaAI Mission, the country has built a shared computer facility with over 45,000 GPUs to support AI research and deployment.
The AI Kosh platform currently hosts 12,519 datasets, 307 AI models and 20 toolkits, while 20 AI solutions have been deployed across 12 sectors.
According to the statement, India’s electronics sector is now valued at ₹13 trillion, with electronics emerging as the country’s third-largest export category.
