The Conference organised by IBM saw major announcements
Minister of State for Electronics and IT (MoS IT) Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently attended IBM’s flagship ‘Think’ conference virtually. Along with IBM officers, the minister unveiled a white paper on quantum technology.
Noting that quantum technology is a crucial part of India’s technological journey, the minister stated: “Quantum is, notwithstanding the usual marketing hype that always accompanies new emerging technologies, clearly a technology that cannot be ignored. India intends to build capabilities in quantum and high-performance computing to address challenges of the future.”
According to Chandrasekhar, India must move forward in the direction of innovating cutting-edge tech. Referring to the ‘Techade’, he said that this journey to build capabilities would need the help of industry leaders.
It is noteworthy that in 2021, Chandrasekhar launched the MeitY-supported QSim – Quantum Computer Simulator Toolkit. Researchers and college students from IISc Bangalore, IIT Roorkee and C-DAC came together to perform research in quantum computing.
Meanwhile, IBM announced that IIT-Madras joined the tech major’s quantum network in order to develop quantum computing skills in India. The institute’s Centre for Quantum Information, Communication and Computing (CQuICC) will focus on advancing core algorithms in fields like quantum machine learning, quantum optimisation and also applications research in finance.
