India PC Market Hits 3.9 Million Units In Q2, Up 12% YoY 

India’s PC shipments rose 12.1% YoY in Q2 2026, driven by enterprise and SMB purchases, channel stocking and strong notebook demand. 

India’s traditional PC market is continuing to expand, with enterprise purchases, SMB demand and channel stocking helping offset moderating consumer demand and rising component costs.

India’s traditional PC market, covering desktops, notebooks and workstations, shipped 3.9 million units in Q2 2026, registering 12.1% year-on-year (YoY) growth, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

The growth was broad-based across both major segments. The commercial segment grew 16.6% YoY to 2.2 million units, while the consumer segment increased 6.6% to 1.7 million units. Stronger commercial demand reflects enterprises and SMBs bringing forward purchases to secure inventory ahead of expected price increases.

Rising component prices drive PC purchases

Component availability and pricing remained key factors shaping the market. Processors, GPUs and SSDs continued to face supply pressures, while rising DRAM and NAND prices increased concerns about further PC price hikes.

This encouraged channel partners and enterprises to stock PCs earlier than planned. IDC said the inventory build-up also reflects expectations of stronger demand during Independence Day sales and the upcoming festive season.

Government and education procurement also improved during the quarter. Government shipments grew 17.6% YoY, while education shipments increased 24.8%, helped by better supply availability and fulfilment of previously delayed orders.

Notebooks and AI PCs gain traction

Notebooks remained the largest contributor to market growth, with shipments increasing 14% YoY. Workstations grew 11.2%, while desktops returned to growth with a 7.7% YoY increase.

The premium segment also recorded strong growth. Notebooks priced above $1,000 increased 78.7% YoY, with consumer premium notebook shipments rising 99%. Meanwhile, AI-capable notebook shipments more than doubled, growing 109.9% YoY.

SMB demand remained another important growth driver, with shipments increasing 21% YoY as businesses continued to refresh older systems.

HP retains market leadership

HP Inc. retained the top position in India with 29.4% market share, supported by strong commercial demand. However, its consumer shipments declined 3.5% YoY.

Lenovo ranked second with 20.3% share, followed by Acer Group at 14.8%, Dell Technologies at 14.1% and ASUS at 7.7%.

Apple was among the fastest-growing vendors, recording 89% YoY growth as it expanded its presence across consumer and commercial segments. ASUS also recorded strong commercial growth of 120.1% YoY.

PC market outlook

The PC market is expected to remain relatively stable in the second half of 2026, supported by enterprise and SMB purchases and continued channel stocking. However, consumer demand could slow as higher component costs push up device prices.

IDC expects PC sell-in to potentially weaken from Q4 2026, while 2027 could prove more challenging as enterprise orders normalise and higher prices lead SMBs to delay procurement.

AMD-powered PCs are also gaining ground as vendors look to offset constraints in Intel-powered PC supplies, with commercial buyers showing encouraging acceptance of AMD systems.
