The solar installation is expected to improve energy resilience, reduce operational costs, and lower dependence on conventional power.
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has commissioned a 150 kW rooftop solar system at its Guwahati facility to improve energy resilience and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
The installation is expected to generate around 205,200 kWh of electricity annually and deliver annual cost savings of about ₹13.8 million. Officials said the project is expected to achieve return on investment within four to five years.
The rooftop solar system supports key operations including fuel dispensers, CCTV systems, point-of-sale terminals, air compressors, signage, lighting, and EV charging stations, helping reduce reliance on grid electricity and diesel generators.
The project is particularly significant for the Northeast, where grid reliability and weather-related disruptions can affect fuel station operations. By strengthening power availability, the installation is expected to improve operational continuity and reduce supply risks.
“Rooftop solar is increasingly emerging as a strategic investment for commercial and industrial infrastructure, helping lower electricity costs and improve operational efficiency,” said Radhika Choudhary, Co-Founder of Freyr Energy.
IOCL said the initiative aligns with its broader sustainability goals and supports India’s transition toward cleaner energy.
