Powered by Apple’s iPhone push, Tata Electronics surges as US exports soar, new Indian plants expand production, while regulatory delays stall Apple’s latest launch in China.
Apple’s strategy to shift iPhone manufacturing to India is paying off, with Tata Electronics emerging as a major supplier to the US market. Shipments to America generated nearly 37% of Tata Electronics’ revenue in FY25, amounting to more than ₹231.12 billion, according to filings cited by The Economic Times.
The shift reflects Apple’s broader plan to reduce dependence on China and diversify production amid ongoing trade tensions. Ireland was Tata’s second-largest export destination, contributing 23% of revenue, or ₹142.55 billion. Taiwan followed with 15%, while the Indian market accounted for 20%. Ireland’s importance is tied to Apple’s role there as its European hub.
Tata’s growing share of Apple’s supply chain highlights how quickly iPhone assembly has scaled in India. Initially focused on Taiwan and domestic demand, Tata Electronics now relies heavily on US exports. The company, alongside Foxconn, is one of Apple’s two key iPhone assemblers in India.
Expansion has been accelerated by Tata’s acquisition of Wistron’s Indian facility in March 2024, now operating as Tata Electronics Systems Solutions. In January 2025, Tata also acquired a 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India for ₹16.5 billion. The Tamil Nadu Pegatron plant, together with the Wistron site in Karnataka, is now a central hub for iPhone assembly.
Pegatron Technology India, now known as Tata Electronics Products and Solutions, reported FY25 revenues of ₹342.64 billion, representing an 84% increase. However, net profit rose only 1%, to ₹6.33 billion, reflecting rising costs.
While India boosts Apple’s production capacity, the company is facing delays in China. The launch of the iPhone Air has been postponed after regulators withheld approval for eSIM services. Apple said it is working with authorities to resolve the issue. Until clearance is granted, Chinese customers will have to wait for the device’s release.
