ITI has won the 334-crore RajNet project of Rajasthan government to facilitate Wi-fi connection at the Gram Panchayat level
Indian Telephone Industries Limited (ITI) has bagged the Letter of Intent (LoI) from RajCOMP Info Services, a Rajasthan government-owned company to set up about 40,000 outdoor Wi-Fi access points under its RajNet project in the state. The project, valued at Rs.334 crores, covers the supply, installation and maintenance of the outdoor Wi-fi access points.
In a statement, ITI informed that it would deal with radio frequency equipment and the operation of the network for a period of six months and 5 years respectively.
RajNet project
This project is aimed to offer internet connection through multiple mechanisms like broadband, SATCOM, Over-the-Air (OTA), Local Area Network (LAN) and Structured Wireless-Aware Network (SWAN) at the Gram Panchayat level. The 334-crore project is a government initiative to boost connectivity in remote villages and support BharatNet’s Phase I and II efforts. ITI had bagged the opportunity by emerging as the lowest bidder in August. It is expected to be completed by March 2019.
India has been working on high-speed broadband network roll-out across 2.5 lakh village panchayats. It has also envisioned ‘internet for all’ and has reached out to providers to support internet penetration in the country.
