LOHUM Cleantech Ltd has entered into a memorandum of understanding with ReElement Technologies Corporation and American Metals to set up a comprehensive facility for battery recycling, repurposing, and critical material production.
The partnership plans to invest USD 30 million to establish a 15.5 GWh facility, which is expected to create 250 green jobs and initially supply over 315,000 electric vehicles annually, with potential growth depending on feedstock availability.
This facility will encompass the entire battery and critical minerals lifecycle management, including battery cell testing, segregation for second-life energy storage, recycling, mineral refining, and the production of engineered materials and battery-grade products with purity levels above 99.5%. These materials will support the U.S. domestic battery ecosystem.
Operations will commence at the Marion Advanced Technology Centre in Indiana with plans for expansion based on the needs of the joint venture.
The collaboration aims to forge a domestic ecosystem for recycled, high-purity lithium, enhancing North America’s lithium-based battery manufacturing supply chain. This operation, driven by the expertise of LOHUM and ReElement, will significantly reduce capital expenditure, physical footprint, environmental impact, and operational costs associated with the separation and purification of battery materials.
