Friday, October 25, 2013: The state of Madhya Pradesh will reportedly be adding an additional solar power generation capacity of 1,200 MW. This will be added to its existing 202 MW of solar power by June 2015.
S R Mohanty, principal secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh, shared at an Gujarat Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( GCCI) event that the state had increased its solar power generation capacity from 2 MW in April 2012 to 220.15 MW in September 2013.
Mohanty said, “In second quarter of 2013 (July-Sept), 191 MW of solar capacity was added in the country, of which 145 MW was added in MP alone, which is almost 80 per cent. In August this year, the MP government commissioned 130 MW solar power project developed by a private company in Neemach district. This plant is the largest single destination power project in the country as of now.”
Mohanty also shared plans of the MP government about achieving 3,800 MW of power projects through renewable energy. In this, wind based power projects will be accounting for 1,900 MW of capacity followed by solar (1,400MW), biomass (300MW) and small hydro projects (200MW).
“There are currently 206 projects under execution which will generate over 4000 MW of power through renewable energy,” Mohanty added.
