Automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki plans to collect inputs from the field test results to produce a reliable user-friendly electric vehicle
Maruti Suzuki has begun its field testing of around 50 of its electric vehicles from its Gurugram unit in India. CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki has flagged off the vehicles. The company’s electric test vehicles have been designed on its existing 2018 model of Suzuki Wagon R that are not sold in India. The prototypes are developed in Japan while the cars have been manufactured in India.

The automaker believes that testing the electric vehicles on roads with different terrains and climatic conditions will aid in drawing relevant information regarding their proper functioning of EV technology used. The outcome of the field tests will determine the company to gather inputs and then start producing reliable and user-friendly EVs.
Maruti Suzuki had earlier announced about its electric vehicles vision 2020 at NITI Aayog’s MOVE Summit in September and with its flagging off, it had stood by its field tests plans before releasing the cars in the market. However, the designs of these EV models have not yet been finalised.
Auto majors, Toyota and Suzuki have partnered to launch a range of new vehicles in India, of which electric vehicles are also a part. Suzuki has announced to make an investment of Rs. 7000 crores in Bengaluru’s Toyota production unit to boost its capacity.
