Micron expects to create approximately 50,000 jobs across New York through this project.
Micron Technology has recently announced the appointment of Bechtel as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner for the first phase of its semiconductor manufacturing complex in Clay, New York, advancing one of the largest chip manufacturing projects in the United States.
The announcement follows the groundbreaking of Micron’s first fabrication facility at the White Pine Commerce Park in January 2026. Bechtel is set to immediately mobilise its teams at the site as construction activities accelerate.
This development might be considered the largest semiconductor manufacturing campus in the US, which serves as a cornerstone of Micron’s strategy to expand domestic memory chip production and strengthen the nation’s semiconductor supply chain.
Micron expects that this project will create approximately 50,000 jobs across New York, including more than 4,500 construction roles. At the height of construction, the site is expected to support thousands of skilled workers, contractors and suppliers.
The economic impact of the project is projected to be significant, contributing nearly $16.7 billion annually to New York State’s economy and generating approximately $5.4 billion in personal income each year over the next 30 years.
Semiconductor fabrication facilities are regarded as some of the most complex industrial projects to build, requiring highly specialised cleanroom environments, ultra-pure process systems, advanced electrical infrastructure and vibration-sensitive foundations.
As part of the agreement, Bechtel will implement an integrated EPC approach that combines engineering, procurement, modular construction techniques, digital construction tools, and advanced project controls to ensure efficient project delivery and operational readiness.
Commenting on the partnership, Manish Bhatia, Executive Vice President of Global Operations at Micron Technology, said, “We are entering an exciting new phase of construction. The collaboration marks a major milestone in the development of Micron’s New York semiconductor hub, which is expected to play a key role in boosting US manufacturing capabilities and technological competitiveness in the years ahead.
