Reliance New Energy is preparing pilot trials for battery swapping in electric two-wheelers, targeting logistics and last-mile delivery fleets.
Reliance New Energy is preparing to roll out battery-swapping services for electric two-wheelers in the logistics and delivery segment, marking another step in its clean mobility strategy, according to The Economic Times.
The company has secured certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for four battery variants and three two-wheeler platforms, enabling testing and pilot deployment.
“The batteries and vehicles have received certification, and the next step is testing within the company’s own fleet,” a person familiar with the development told ET.
Reliance will initially conduct internal trials before expanding to pilot projects in select cities. If testing progresses as planned, the company could move towards a broader commercial rollout by the end of FY27.
The programme is built around a removable lithium-ion battery pack developed by Reliance, designed for electric scooters, three-wheelers and light commercial vehicles. The company had earlier showcased this technology at the Renewable Energy India Expo 2023.
Initially, Reliance is expected to focus on commercial fleet operators, including e-commerce, logistics and last-mile delivery firms, where battery swapping offers stronger economic value.
“Battery swapping makes the most sense for commercial fleets as it reduces vehicle downtime,” ET reported.
This move could strengthen battery-swapping adoption in India’s commercial EV segment, where faster turnaround and lower downtime remain key priorities.
