Midsummer Secures Largest-Ever Order for Thin, Lightweight Solar Panels

Delivery and installation are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Swedish solar energy company Midsummer has received its largest single order to date for the company’s thin and lightweight solar panels, marking a significant milestone for its European solar technology business.

The order covers a 667 kW field installation requiring more than 5,000 square meters of solar panels. Midsummer will supply over 1,300 units of its BOLD panel, a model designed for large roof areas and installations where low weight, durability, and ease of handling are critical.

Delivery and installation are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. The project is being developed jointly by Midsummer and Green Energy Group, a Danish company specializing in lightweight and flexible solar solutions for transport, mobility, and infrastructure applications. The installation is an off-grid project, and the companies said Midsummer’s technology was selected because of its suitability for solution integration, logistics, sustainability, low weight, and value-chain traceability.

Green Energy Group has completed more than 3,000 solar installations across Europe and manages projects from system design and technology integration through delivery and implementation.

Midsummer said its thin-film solar panels are particularly suitable for locations where transport constraints and limited roof load-bearing capacity make conventional silicon solar panels less practical.

“This is Midsummer’s largest single order for solar panels to date, both in terms of installed power and order value,” said Eric Jaremalm, CEO of Midsummer. He added that the order demonstrates demand for solar solutions where low weight, robustness, and a controlled European value chain are decisive factors, including applications in field infrastructure, defense, mobility, space, and vehicles.

The company also highlighted the durability of its panels in remote and demanding environments. According to Midsummer, the panels are easier to transport on poor road networks and are designed to withstand external impacts such as strong winds, hail, shading, and other localized damage with only limited effect on overall power output.
