Mitsubishi Announces Free Inverter Design Data Service For Renewable Energy PCS Development

The service will offer customers access to detailed design and validation information for three-level inverter systems

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will introduce a free service on June 28 that provides design and validation data for its proprietary prototype inverter used in power conversion systems (PCSs).

This service has been built around the company’s 8th-generation insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) technology of the company. The prototype inverter is designed to support the development of PCSs for solar power and other renewable energy applications.

The service will offer customers access to detailed design and validation information for three-level inverter systems, including experimental results from a technical collaboration with Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).

By offering comprehensive data for its Industrial LV100-type 1.2kV IGBT Module, intended for large-capacity PCSs, and the Industrial NX-type 1.2kV IGBT Module, designed for medium- to large-capacity systems, Mitsubishi Electric aims to simplify component selection, system design, manufacturing, and validation processes. The initiative is expected to help accelerate the development and deployment of renewable energy inverters.

Over time, the adoption of renewable energy is growing worldwide. The demand for PCSs that efficiently convert power between direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) is rising. Large-scale renewable energy installations, such as utility-scale solar farms, increasingly rely on megawatt-class, high-voltage, high-capacity PCSs that use three-level inverter architectures to improve efficiency while reducing system size. However, designing these systems remains challenging due to complex thermal management requirements, fault-protection mechanisms, high-density circuit layouts, and extensive system-level validation efforts. Mitsubishi Electric’s new service seeks to address these challenges by providing engineers with practical design insights and validated performance data.
