Sony’s advanced image sensor and edge AI technologies with Mitsubishi Electric’s extensive expertise in factory automation (FA) control systems will be combined
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has signed an agreement with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation to accelerate the automation and advancement of manufacturing equipment and manual operations in the manufacturing industry.
Through this collaboration, the two companies will establish a newly formed joint venture (“JV”), Advanced Vision Solutions Co., Ltd., which is scheduled to begin operations in October 2026, subject to the receipt of necessary approvals and clearances from relevant authorities.
Also, both companies will develop and offer vision sensor solutions leveraging cutting-edge technologies that enable AI-based analysis of visual data directly on image sensors. The solutions will precisely capture conditions and changes across a broad range of manufacturing sites that have traditionally been difficult to visualise, and connect them to decision-making and control. They will support automation and autonomous operation of a wide range of manufacturing equipment, contributing to labour savings and unmanned operations.
The partnership will combine Sony’s advanced image sensor and edge AI technologies with Mitsubishi Electric’s extensive expertise in factory automation (FA) control systems. Together, the companies aim to develop solutions that accurately capture manufacturing conditions, product quality, equipment performance, and maintenance data that were previously difficult to monitor and analyse.
By intelligently extracting actionable insights from this data and linking them to automated decision-making and control systems, the collaboration will enable real-time, autonomous operational improvements with minimal human intervention.
