Mivi aims to develop an indigenously designed smartphone within approximately 12 months, building in-house capabilities in circuit design, PCB engineering, industrial design and software development. The Indian consumer electronics brand is also targeting a workforce of 10,000 over the next three years as it seeks to move beyond assembly towards proprietary technology and intellectual property (IP).
Chief Business Officer Himanshu Tandon outlined the strategy during a discussion with technology research firm Techarc. Mivi intends to reduce its dependence on external design expertise and gain greater control over product development, moving beyond its established audio accessories business into smartphones and other consumer technology products.
The company launched its first smartphone, the Mivi One 5G, on 24 September 2026. Although manufactured in India, the handset represents an initial step towards the company’s longer-term ambition of developing products with greater indigenous engineering and company-owned IP.
The proposed workforce expansion would support engineering, product development, manufacturing and business operations. However, Mivi has not disclosed a detailed recruitment schedule.
The company is also exploring partnerships with artificial intelligence (AI) developers to integrate intelligent features into future smartphones and other consumer devices. Specific partners and implementation timelines remain unannounced.
Mivi plans to expand offline distribution through national and regional retail chains and open additional experience centres in 2027. The company says its customers have access to more than 500 service centres across India.
Founded by Midhula Devabhaktuni and Viswanadh Kandula, Mivi built its presence through wireless earbuds, headphones, speakers and soundbars. Its latest plans signal an ambition to progress from an audio accessories brand towards a consumer technology company with stronger domestic design and engineering capabilities.
