NHPC has recently inked a contract with Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), Government of Gujarat. The investment of ₹4,000 crore has been initiated in the proposed 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat.
This contract has been signed under the “Vibrant Gujarat” initiative. The agenda of this initiative is to utilise pumped hydro storage projects for energy storage, addressing the national objective of clean and green energy. This collaboration will be helpful to create employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy.
The agreement was signed at the Secretariat in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, by Arun Mahesh Babu, Managing Director of GPCL, and V.R. Srivastava, Executive Director, Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen, NHPC, in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai.
This effort aims to attain 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030 and achieve a “Net Zero” objective by 2070. NHPC, boasting a combined installed capacity of 7,097.2 MW, encompassing wind and solar power across 25 power stations and subsidiary ventures, has substantially bolstered India’s renewable energy sector. Currently, NHPC is developing 15 projects with a total capacity of 10,449 MW, including its subsidiaries and collaborative ventures.
