Upgrading its network and 4G/5G speeds, Nokia partners with Vodafone Idea to provide advanced IP/MPLS solutions and subsequently reduce operational costs.
Nokia has been chosen by Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) to enhance its IP backhaul network, ensuring a superior 4G and 5G experience. This three-year agreement will see Nokia deploy advanced IP/MPLS routers across multiple telecom circles in India, replacing VIL’s legacy system, so that it can handle increased data traffic.
The deployment will include Nokia’s 7750 SR and 7250 IXR series, modernising VIL’s transport network to deliver faster speeds and improved customer experiences, owing to the demand for data-heavy services such as AI, immersive gaming, and business video conferencing.
Additionally, this upgrade is expected to reduce operational costs and speed up deployment times, while also offering seamless scalability for future technologies.
The network transformation will be supported by a range of services, including planning, design, installation, and migration, with automation-based documentation to ensure efficiency.
“Partnering with Nokia truly aligns with our vision to enhance customer experience and support the growth of data traffic in the country. The state-of-the-art solutions from Nokia and their proven deployment capabilities will enable us to build a future-ready transport network. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to delivering superior connectivity and services to our customers,” stated Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea.
Meanwhile, Prashant Malkani, Head of Network Infrastructure at Nokia India, highlighted that the collaboration will help build a better network. “Our innovative IP/MPLS portfolio, in-depth understanding of 4G and 5G requirements and trusted performance across all network domains will ensure a high-performance network that delivers exceptional customer experiences for Vodafone Idea,” he said.
