A new type of manufacturing has emerged – the production of intelligence.
Nvidia announced that it is collaborating with Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) to accelerate the AI (artificial intelligence) industrial revolution, during a discussion at Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei.
Foxconn plans to integrate Nvidia’s technology to create advanced data centers. These centers will support applications, such as transforming manufacturing and inspection processes, building AI-driven electric vehicle and robotics systems, and expanding language-related AI services.
The AI factories will use Nvidia’s general processing unit (GPU) computing infrastructure designed to handle, refine, and convert large datasets into useful AI models.
“A new type of manufacturing has emerged – the production of intelligence. And the data centers that produce it are AI factories,” said Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive officer (CEO).
The announcement came after Nvidia expressed concerns over new U.S. export restrictions blocking its chip sales in China. Nvidia’s financial and market position has strengthened with their investment in AI. Its shares have tripled in 2023 with a market value of $1trillion.
The press release stated that Foxconn is also developing its smart solution platforms based on NVIDIA technologies including:
- Foxconn’s smart electric vehicle (EV) will be built on Nvidia Drive Hyperion 9, a platform for automotive fleets, powered by Nvidia Drive Thor, its automotive systems-on-a-chip (SoC)
- Foxconn smart manufacturing robotic systems will be built on the Nvidia Isaac, mobile robot platform.
- Foxconn smart city will incorporate the Nvidia Metropolis intelligent video analytics platform.
Foxconn aims to take up 5% of global EV market ($33bn in revenue) before 2025.With a long term goal of making 50% of world’s EVs, Foxconn considers India and Japan promising for EV development.
