Odisha has always shown keen interest in adopting solar energy to meet power demands. The state government had recently chalked out plans to form a solar policy for the region, that will ensure all the goals are met effectively and on-time.
And further strengthening its grip on the situation, the state government is offering solar lanterns to the weaving community. The ministry has decided to distribute 40,500 solar lanterns, which will be spread over span of four years.
The project involves an estimated budget of around Rs 172 million and an estimated non-recurring expenditure for the project, Rs 430 million will be made available each year.
The primary objective behind launching such a program is to illuminate the work and to enable them to carry on working even during power cuts and low voltage situations. The overall initiative will result in the growth of the worker in terms of more dispensable income.
The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) was said to joining hands with the banking sector and other finance institutions to offer loans for installation of solar heating system in household. The state’s solar policy states that Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will be the more prominent cities.
