The three-wheeler will be the first of its kind from India and globally to be presented at the Hyvolution hydrogen show in Paris.
Electric vehicle maker Omega Seiki Mobility’s French subsidiary, Hydrogen Intelligence SA, is set to initiate commercial trials of India’s first hydrogen-powered electric three-wheeler, beginning in September 2024. These trials, focusing on domestic fleet operators, will take place in Gujarat and Mumbai, Maharashtra, showcasing the vehicle’s impressive range of 500 km on a single fill.
To support this initiative, dedicated grey hydrogen refuelling centres will be established at various last-mile operators’ premises in these states, mirroring the strategy used to expand the network of e-3w charging stations.
While other major automotive players have developed hydrogen vehicles, OSM’s three-wheeler will be the first of its kind from India and globally to be presented at the Hyvolution hydrogen show in Paris. OSM plans to introduce 100 grey-to-green hydrogen fuel vehicles in India with last-mile operators by the second quarter of the current calendar year and aims for commercial production of 5,000 such vehicles at its upcoming plant in Tamil Nadu.
Highlighting the vehicle’s potential and the company’s innovative approach to using green hydrogen for small commercial vehicles, Pierre Fillon, President of Le Mans and an eminent figure in automobile racing, will conduct a test of the vehicle at the Circuit 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The venture into hydrogen-powered vehicles is supported by Antoine Abou, Co-founder of Systemics Energy, and Richard Gerstenberg, CEO of OSM Mobility EU, who are key players in the implementation of hydrogen-based solutions for small commercial vehicles. Uday Narang, CEO and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) holds a 50 percent stake in the new entity.
