Marking a shift in India’s semiconductor leadership, STMicroelectronics appointed Anand Kumar as Managing Director, succeeding Vivek Sharma.
STMicroelectronics has announced the appointment of Anand Kumar as the new Managing Director for India, succeeding Vivek Sharma, who superannuated after a distinguished 34-year career.
Kumar brings extensive experience in leadership, innovation and product development. He has led major business transformations within the technology sector, in his 26 years with the company.
STMicroelectronics welcomed him, stating that his role reflects their intent to advance their goals and strengthen their market position.
Based at the Greater Noida headquarters, Anand Kumar will oversee the company’s India operations. His role includes driving growth strategy and spearheading innovation initiatives.
Meanwhile, Vivek Sharma’s retirement marks the end of an era for STMicroelectronics India. Over his 34-year tenure, he made significant contributions to the company’s growth and success in the semiconductor industry.
This leadership change aligns with broader trends in the semiconductor sector. Companies are increasingly focusing on strong local leadership to navigate global challenges, ensure supply chain resilience, and tap into domestic talent pools.
In 2025 alone, India’s semiconductor sector saw several high-profile leadership moves. In April, Tata Electronics appointed KC Ang as President and Head of its Foundry business. The following month, Amitesh Kumar Sinha was named CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, reinforcing government-led chipmaking efforts. Later in May, Tim McIntosh, a veteran from Intel, took charge as Vice President and Head of Operations for Tata’s upcoming Assam chip assembly and test facility.
