After six years of leading the company, Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B resigns to pursue academic research. He will continue as an advisor as Xiaomi strengthens its leadership.
Muralikrishnan B, the President of Xiaomi India, announced his resignation on Monday after over six years with the Chinese consumer electronics company, citing personal reasons. He will leave at the end of the year to pursue his passion for academic research, focusing on an Executive Doctorate in management with an emphasis on consumer behaviour on technology platforms.
However, he will continue to support Xiaomi India in an advisory role as an independent Strategic Advisor.
Muralikrishnan joined Xiaomi India in 2018 and held various roles, including Chief Operating Officer, before being promoted to President in 2022. Under his leadership, Xiaomi became one of the dominant players in the Indian smartphone market, although it has recently been working to reclaim its top position, competing with vivo.
During his tenure, Muralikrishnan played a pivotal role in strengthening Xiaomi India’s brand presence, driving strategic direction, and managing public affairs, particularly during challenges like the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) investigation into the company in 2022.
On Monday, Xiaomi praised his leadership, noting his contributions to the company’s success in India.
Xiaomi has recently appointed Sudhin Mathur, former managing director of Motorola Mobility India, as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Muralikrishnan expressed confidence that Mathur and other senior leaders, including Sameer Rao (CFO), Varun Madan (CPO), and Anuj Sharma (CMO), will continue to lead the company’s growth and innovation in India.
With over 25 years of experience in various fields across consumer e-commerce domains, Muralikrishnan is an accomplished engineer and an alumnus of IIM-Calcutta. He has previously served as the country manager of eBay.
