Piyush Goyal Opens NEST–02, Calls For Stronger Skilling Push At SEEPZ

Urging industry to boost skilling and transparency, Piyush Goyal opens NEST–02 in Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ).

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated NEST–02, the second phase of the New Enterprises and Services Tower, at the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) in Mumbai on Wednesday, 10 December 2025.

Goyal stressed that the zone should align its operations with national economic goals and work towards higher productivity and competitiveness. He also urged industries within SEEPZ to intensify skilling initiatives to prepare India’s workforce for emerging opportunities.

The Minister called on SEEPZ units to expand training programmes, including those designed for specially abled youth. He urged unit holders to cooperate with the administration to maintain a clean, transparent work environment. A fair, auction-based allocation of space, he added, is vital to prevent misuse and ensure equitable access.

Goyal encouraged stakeholders to review unutilised land parcels and work with the managing committee to boost exports. He also called for openness in all administrative processes, including customs, approvals and maintenance contracts.

The Minister also reviewed infrastructure improvements underway at SEEPZ. These include upgrades to internal roads, landscaping and modernisation of key facilities. Goyal highlighted ongoing reforms such as decriminalisation measures and simplified compliance processes. He said these initiatives reinforce trust between government and industry, which must be maintained through ethical conduct.

He concluded by urging SEEPZ to evolve into a world-class production hub that reflects India’s ambition for Viksit Bharat 2047.
