Local officials have initiated a pilot project featuring electric vehicles equipped with advanced safety systems and contemporary amenities. This initiative targets serving 3,000 daily passengers and represents a notable advancement in sustainable urban transportation within the capital, according to the company.
PMI Electro Mobility has rolled out electric ‘Mohalla Buses’ in Delhi through a pilot project aimed at improving last-mile connectivity. This initiative was inaugurated with the launch of a Mohalla Bus from Nehru Place Metro Station by Saurabh Bhardwaj, Urban Development Minister of Delhi NCT, and Somnath Bharti, Member of Delhi Legislative Assembly. In parallel, Parmila Tokas, another Member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, flagged off a bus from Vasant Vihar Metro Station.
The project introduces nine-meter air-conditioned low-floor electric buses into Delhi’s public transport network, designed to enhance service accessibility in areas that were previously challenging to reach with traditional buses.
Dr Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., emphasized the company’s commitment to bolstering Delhi’s sustainable public transport vision. The buses are equipped with robust safety features such as emergency stop buttons, CCTV surveillance, accessibility ramps, and comprehensive fire extinguisher systems.
The buses will operate routes from Vasant Vihar and Nehru Place Metro Stations, primarily servicing various locations across South Delhi. A special provision allows women to travel free of charge on these buses.
These 24-seater electric vehicles come fitted with fast-charging lithium-ion batteries and are outfitted with state-of-the-art features, including a Real-Time Passenger Information System, panic buttons, and a Vehicle Location and Tracking System. These zero-emission buses are expected to cut CO2 emissions by over 650 tons annually.
The service is projected to cater to around 3,000 daily passengers. The launch event saw participation from notable government officials and PMI Electro Mobility executives, signifying an important milestone in enhancing Delhi’s public transportation system.
