As per a report by Business Standard, Reliance Jio has sought government permission to conduct 5G trials based on design and technology developed by the company. Previously, it had announced that it will broaden its 5G trial runs by teaming up with Huawei, Ericsson, and Nokia Networks and be limited to Samsung only.
Outsourcing possible if trials are successful
The report also said that if the trials are successful, Jio could outsource design and technology for the equipment to third-party players. The report added that Jio declined to comment on the matter.
Vodafone Idea and Airtel are also working on the design of 5G telecom equipment with Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei. Last year in December, the government had said that it will provide telecom operators and equipment makers spectrum for 5G trials. In the beginning, they will conduct trials with vendor partners. It will be followed by vendors like Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Huawei, and ZTE, doing it independently in the second phase.
