River Launches Updated Indie Electric Scooter With Chain Drive And New Colors

The revamped Indie now comes with a single-speed gearbox and a chain drive, enhancing both durability and cost-effectiveness. It is also available in two additional colours.

River, a Bengaluru-based electric scooter manufacturer, has introduced an updated version of its Indie electric scooter. The latest model includes a single-speed gearbox with a chain drive, marking a first in its segment. This upgrade aims to enhance durability and reduce ownership costs. The updated Indie now comes in two additional colours, Winter White and Storm Grey, in addition to the existing Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow, and is priced at Rs 1,42,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru).

Initially launched in late 2023, the Indie scooter features a lockable storage capacity of 55 litres, including 12 litres in the glove box and 43 litres under the seat. Its design integrates front footpegs and 14-inch wheels to enhance manoeuvrability and comfort across varied road conditions. The Lock&Load pannier-stays allow for customizable configurations, and additional accessories enhance its utility. The scooter maintains three riding modes—Eco, Ride, and Rush—and delivers a range of 110 kilometers on a single charge.

Aravind Mani, CEO and Co-founder of River mentioned that the company had sold over 3,000 units since the Indie’s launch in October 2023. Customer feedback has been crucial in shaping the updates for the new Indie. Over the next two months, River plans to expand its presence with new stores in several Indian cities, aiming to have 25 River Stores across the country by March 2025.

Mazher Ali Baig Mirza, Head of Mechanical Design at River, highlighted the benefits of the chain drive with a single-speed gearbox. He detailed that the system is more durable, reduces long-term ownership costs, and is simpler to assemble and repair, making it highly scalable.

Its primary product, the Indie, combines utility and adaptability to meet diverse commuting requirements.

With the recent introduction of a single-speed gearbox with a chain drive, River continues to focus on improving product durability and optimizing long-term maintenance costs. The company incorporates customer feedback to enhance its offerings, emphasizing functionality and practicality in its designs.

River is also working to expand its retail presence across key Indian cities, focusing on user-friendly designs and operational efficiency to cater to a broad spectrum of customers. These initiatives align with the increasing adoption of sustainable transportation solutions, aiming to provide reliable and efficient electric mobility options that support the evolving needs of urban commuters.
