The move is especially important for the automotive sector, where robust and high-performance semiconductor packaging plays a vital role in applications
ROHM has announced a partnership with India-based Suchi Semicon to strengthen local back-end semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, including chip assembly and packaging—critical processes in preparing semiconductors for automotive applications.
The collaboration reflects India’s growing role in the global semiconductor value chain, particularly at a time when automakers are increasingly relying on dependable power devices for vehicle electrification and advanced electronic systems.
Under the partnership, ROHM will combine its expertise in power semiconductor design with Suchi Semicon’s manufacturing capabilities to build a scalable and localised production framework. The initial focus will be on outsourcing back-end processes such as packaging and testing for power devices and integrated circuits. Technical evaluations are already underway, with mass production targeted from 2026.
The move is especially important for the automotive sector, where robust and high-performance semiconductor packaging plays a vital role in applications such as EV powertrains, onboard electronics, and energy management systems. By enabling local production, the partnership is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience, reduce import dependence, and shorten delivery timelines for automotive manufacturers.
Beyond manufacturing, the two companies also plan to broaden their collaboration by developing advanced packaging technologies and expanding the range of semiconductor solutions produced in India.
The initiative aligns with the government’s “Make in India” vision and mirrors a wider industry trend toward regionalising semiconductor supply chains to reduce global disruptions. With demand for electric and connected vehicles continuing to rise, the partnership positions India as an emerging hub for semiconductor packaging, offering automotive players a more reliable and efficient sourcing base.
ROHM’s tie-up with Suchi Semicon highlights how strategic industry collaborations are helping reshape the future of automotive electronics by bringing production closer to key growth markets such as India.
